Hudson's Hope, BC --> Prince George, BC

Friday

Woke up to rain again. It seems like everything is a little bit damp all the time, like our towels and clothing that we have folded up in the closets. We took a quick tour of Hudson’s Hope. Then we headed to check-out one of their hydro-dams. The little town has two hydro-dams that helped create the largest reservoir in North America. It is a very scenic drive with steep 10% grades. I would say it is worth the trip. We forgot kitty in the trailer until we got to the dam, when we opened the door she was standing there meowing at us. We decided she doesn’t like riding in the trailer going down the road.

We stopped in Chetwynd to check out their annual international chainsaw carving contest. It is day two of the contest. It reminds me of the ice sculpture contest in Fairbanks. Only their sculptures last much longer! They have previous year’s sculptures setup throughout the downtown area. There are some very intricate carvings, worth taking a look.

Down the road we stopped at Bijoux Falls. It is a large waterfall just off the side of the road. We took our first family photo with Wesley. John loved the waterfall. He wanted to go through rocks in it. Both Wesley and John didn’t know what to think about the mist coming from the falls. We couldn’t get too close or we would get a face full of water. Right after we left Bijoux Falls we saw some tourists stopped on the side of the road standing about 10 feet away from a little black bear taking pictures of it. I hope they didn’t have salmon for lunch!

So far I think this has been my favorite day of the trip. The weather has cleared up and the drive is just amazing!

We are in Prince George for the night. We are staying in an RV park with full hookups, we will be able to shower and do laundry. Laundry is much needed at this point, I also need to cook up some veggies for Wesley to have food for the rest of the trip. We may get a late start tomorrow as we have not done any of our mentioned chores yet. We are heading to bed now.

Nope, didn’t drive today.

Tetsa River Services & Campground, BC --> Hudson's Hope, BC

Thursday

Today is my baby brother’s birthday! Happy birthday baby slug!! We love you and can’t wait to see you in a few days!

Woke up to rain and more rain, doesn’t bother me, but Scott said he wanted to wear his sunglasses sometime today. We drove over Steamboat Mountain summit (3500 ft. elevation) today and went through some very thick fog. Kinda scary, but it didn’t last long. We woke up at 7am and were on the road by 9:03am. A record for us for this trip, we were on the road before Wesley’s first nap.

We stopped at a rest area with a playground. It was nice for the boys to get out and stretch. John loved the play time and Wesley loved watching him. There were night facilities with great picnic tables and birds were begging for scraps.

We decided to take the Hudson’s Hope Loop into Prince George instead of going through Dawson Creek. It is a beautiful drive with large ranches and farming. The road is 10% grades that brings you down into Peace River Valley. There are little deer all over the valley grazing off the side of the road.

We camped at King Gething campground in Hudson’s Hope. After 3 minutes of our arrival the campground host/manager came over in a pickup truck and “gave” us some firewood for the night and told us he would be back by in the morning to collect the fee. There were only 10 sites, but it had showers and a sani-dump, and it backs up to an empty lot, it is very quiet. We had two deer visit with us until Scott turned on the generator…

We built our first fire since we have been on the road. I put the boys to bed and sat by the fire for a few hours. Scott sat with me for a bit then went inside to do his night time therapies. It was perfect weather and a perfect night. We didn’t have any cell/text/ or internet coverage!

No driving for me today!
