Pickhandle Lake, YT --> Whitehorse, YT

Monday June 4th 2012

Last night we carefully planned on staying at an RV park with Wi-Fi so we could share our blog posts. Well, we overshot that stop by 10+ miles and nobody wanted to turn around. We stayed at Pickhandle Lake rest area. It is a very pretty and quiet lake with fish, birds, and we even saw a few muskrats foraging for food. John had a blast throwing rocks into the lake from the little, fenced in dock. No cell coverage…

We crossed into Canada and they did not check for kitty’s papers. We didn’t tell them we had her, but we were prepared if they asked. We were just curious to see if they would ask for them. The roads in Canada are TERRIBLE!!! I have had to tell Scott to slow down many, many times. It is such a bumpy ride it hurts if you are wearing a seatbelt. I have asked to drive several times and he has refused every time. I “told” him last night that I wanted to drive into Whitehorse today and he said, “You want to use your one and only time to drive, tomorrow? Are you sure”? What a brat!! I think he just doesn’t want to entertain the boys. Needless to say I have been bored…. I have been typing the blog in the backseat to keep me somewhat busy. It has been a beautiful drive, weather is great, perfect temperature.

Today, Monday was a good drive even though we only went about 200 miles. Wesley was all but happy to be in the car all day again. We had to stop many times just so he could get out and stretch his legs. We stopped in Haines Jct for fuel and we spotted a playground. We stopped and parked at the playground so John could play and run for a bit. He ran over to the playground and explored all the different areas while I was trying to nurse Wesley. After a few minutes I looked over to find John and he was standing own top of a metal bench---concentrating. Scott ran over and asked John if he was pooping. Yes, he was and did. So we spent the next little while cleaning up John. While I was hosing him off with the outdoor shower and Scott was inside the camper entertaining Wesley, kitty decided to take a walk-about...unbeknownst to us. John got changed and cleaned up as well as Wesley. (It seems that when one has to be poopy, the other one does too). ugh... anyway, we were buckling up the trailer and I glanced around to grab kitty to put her back in the truck and she was know where to be found. I told Scott she wasn't in the trailer, we both took off around the park looking for the cow. We didn't see her. Scott thought we should drive around the are a little bit to see if she got off somewhere, as soon as he started up the truck, here comes the dirty cow out from under the truck. She had climbed up under the rear wheel well, after she had obviously rolled around in the dirt several times. I grabbed her and threw her into the truck and our "quick little park trip" was done.

Settled down in Whitehorse for the night. What a beautiful town. Had dinner at Ricky's. Service was slow, but food was good. Then went grocery shopping and did some laundry. Tomorrow we get real showers!!

Oh, I got to drive from the grocery store back to our camp ground! It was a whopping 2 miles!!! Scott said, "I hope you enjoy it, cuz that's all you get"!

Fuel costs haven't been too bad here in Canada. We paid 1.40 in Whitehorse.
